ABSN Prerequisites

Before you may enroll in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) track at the University of the Incarnate Word, you will need the following:

  • A non-nursing bachelor’s degree or at least 60 college credits from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Prerequisite courses for the nursing program.
  • Outstanding UIW core classes not included in your previous coursework.

Note that the prerequisite and core classes are available to you here at UIW.

ABSN prerequisites are an important component of your education, providing you with the foundational knowledge you will need in your nursing studies. Additionally, successful completion of these courses is a good indicator of your readiness to pursue study in the health sciences.

Keep in mind that the number of courses you will need to take depends on your previous degree and when you completed it. Because these courses are science-based, applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree tend to meet more of the ABSN prerequisite requirements than applicants with a Bachelor of Arts.

When you talk to an admissions counselor, they will help you determine which courses, if any, you need to take.
