ABSN Admissions Overview
If you want to start working toward a rewarding career in nursing as soon as possible, the University of the Incarnate Word Accelerated BSN track in San Antonio could be your quickest path. To begin this 16-month accelerated nursing track, you must first meet the ABSN admissions requirements.
UIW offers three start dates each year in January, May and August. The ABSN academic calendar details important dates for upcoming cohorts.

As an ABSN program with rolling admissions, our ABSN track offers three start dates per year, providing you with the time needed to prepare for admissions. By working with your admissions counselor, you will select a target start date and develop a plan to meet requirements and apply in time.
Throughout the ABSN admissions process, you’ll be in close contact with a UIW admissions counselor as you navigate the path toward nursing school.

What are the ABSN track admissions requirements?
You must have at least a non-nursing bachelor’s degree or at least 60 non-nursing college credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to meet the admissions requirements for our accelerated track.
Moreover, if you haven’t already taken the prerequisite courses, you will need to take them to be eligible for admittance. Nursing students are also required to submit to a criminal background check and obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Do I need to complete the prerequisites before I apply to the ABSN track?
You can apply to the ABSN track while you are finishing the last semester of your prerequisites. UIW can grant conditional acceptance, pending the submission of your official transcript upon completion of your prerequisites. To be admitted into our accelerated nursing track, each of the prerequisite courses must be completed with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
